What we do.
Over 20 million people suffer from substance use disorder in the United Staes. Many of these people have pets which they are very fond of. Unfortunately, when they finally seek treatment most programs will not allow pets into their facilities.
Our program was created to help people struggling with substance use disorder participate in addiction treatment without having to abandon their pets. By registering to volunteer you can foster someone’s pet while they go to residential drug and alcohol treatment. This gives our clients one less thing to worry about so they can concentrate on their recovery. Not only is fostering a pet rewarding in it self but you will be contributing to the reduction of the many barriers people with substance use disorder face everyday.
Drug and alcohol treatment is normally a 90 day commitment. After both client and foster parent are vetted for eligibility one of our team members will transport the animal to your home along with pet food and all necessary supplies.
Our program will support our volunteers with round the clock assistance in case of an emergency and will retrieve the pet after our client returns from treatment.
